Seed paper (also called “plantable paper”) is paper embedded with seeds: instead of throwing it away, you plant it in the ground. The paper breaks down, the seeds germinate, and out come flowers, aromatic herbs or vegetables. Zero waste — a printed piece that ends its life as a plant.

How is it made?

It's usually produced from recycled paper, with tiny seeds folded into the pulp during manufacturing. The result is a slightly thicker, textured paper that can be printed and customised just like a conventional stock (using suitable inks).

How does it actually work?

  1. Plant the paper (whole or torn into pieces) under a few millimetres of potting soil.
  2. Water it regularly and keep it in a bright spot.
  3. Within one to three weeks, the seeds germinate while the paper itself biodegrades completely.

What can you use it for?

Business cards, announcements, greeting cards, event flyers, bookmarks, labels, point-of-sale displays: any communication piece can be made plantable. It's a powerful brand gesture — a message that lives on as a tangible ecological act, and one the recipient won't forget.

Why it matters for a brand

Beyond the genuine environmental benefit (recycled paper + zero waste), seed paper tells a story that's consistent with responsible values — and it leaves a far deeper impression than a printed piece that gets tossed. It's one of the options offered by our eco-responsible printing. Got a project like this in mind? Let's talk.
